Job Description: SCHOOL NURSE (Part time)The International School of Brussels (ISB) is a dynamic, inclusive learning organization committed to developing independent learners and international citizens. Our goal is to enable general well-being, success for learning, and a balanced healthy lifestyle, through both physical and emotional support.The ISB health office provides, coordinates and facilitates nursing/skilled medical care services to the students and employees who become ill or injured at ISB throughout the school day.
Two nurses work at the health office from Monday-Friday from 8 am until 4:30 pm.Key accountabilities :Medical Care

  • Reception and guidance of students in case of a crisis situation.
  • Routine care for students (injured, sick, care at regular intervals).

-Provide medication as indicated

  • Emergency care for the entire school population in case of an accident, malaise or illness.

-Properly assess the nature of illness or injury and take appropriate action.-Recognize when to refer to a Doctor or other medical specialist.

  • Appropriately communicate with Parents, teachers and leadership.
  • Provide eyesight and hearing screening for students upon request.
  • Implementation of the ISB concussion protocol.
  • Creation of, and participation in the annual flu vaccination campaign for faculty and staff.
  • Mental Health Services – promote and develop relationships using strategies of assessment, intervention and referral to school counselors.

Administrative skills

  • Maintain a confidential medical record of students visits to the health office by completing a written assessment for each student.
  • Management of measures to be taken in case of infectious and contagious diseases among the school population.
  • Liaison work between doctors, teachers, parents, students and/or any other kind of healthcare provider.
  • Promote Health education within the school community through appropriate education programmes.
  • Develop policies and procedures for illness/injury prevention and intervention, including crisis management.
  • Participate in the creation of schoolwide protocols.
  • Reporting of „school accidents“ for insurance purposes.
  • Develop health plans and services for students with specific health conditions.
  • Providing parents or any other member of the community with resources to help them find their way around the Belgian health care system.

Medical StockHelp maintain adequate supplies of any medication or materials needed in the Health Office at all times:

  • House medication for students as indicated by parents for specific conditions.
  • Maintain up-to-date permission forms for administration of medication as needed.
  • Prepare First Aid Kits for school trips schoolwide.

Profile:

  • Graduated nurse or bachelor in nursing (A1 level required).
  • Relevant professional experience is an asset.
  • Mastery of computer tools and office software and ability to quickly learn internal tools of the ISB school computer system.
  • A valid work permit.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently as well as in a team, with a spirit of collaboration.
  • Flexibility, stress resistance, availability, and adaptability.
  • Ease in contacts with a demanding public in a multicultural environment.

-Comfortable with children aged 2 ½ to 19 years of age.

  • Good communication skills and writing abilities

-Proficiency in English, knowledge of another language is an asset

  • FA/CPR/AED qualifications
