OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION WITHIN THE TERMS LAID DOWN OF THE REGULATIONS FOR RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ALGARVE

One Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

A tender is now open for the attribution of a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship within the scope of the project MONITUR – „Observation and monitoring of the Algarve tourist destination: contributions for its sustainable development”, Ref. 72582-MONITUR (10ID00163), financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Operational Programme CRESC Algarve 2020, of Portugal2020, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Tourism.

Admission Requirements: i) Hold a PhD degree in Tourism, or in related fields, obtained in the three years prior to the date of submission of the application for the scholarship and possess a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals an appropriate profile for the research and development activities to be carried out; ii) Had carried out the research work that led to the attribution of a doctoral degree in an entity other than the host of the scholarship (CinTurs); iii) Have research experience in the field of study of residents‘ attitudes and behaviours towards tourism.

For the purpose of determining the most suitable profile for the activity to be developed, the following are preferential factors:

i) Experience in participating in research projects, namely on residents‘ attitudes and behaviour towards tourism;

ii) Experience in participating in research activities and studies in the scientific field of tourism;

iii) Experience in literature review on the attitudes and behaviour of residents and tourists towards tourism;

iv) Experience in collecting data through questionnaire-based surveys, by personal interview, to residents and tourists;

v) Experience in using data analysis software (SPSS, Nvivo, Smart PLS or others);

vi) Experience in writing technical reports and scientific documents;

vii) Experience in supporting the organisation of scientific events.

Domain of the Portuguese and English languages will be preferential factors.

Work Plan: The work plan includes the execution of tasks foreseen in the project activities. The researcher should carry out tasks inherent to the literature review anticipated within the scope of the project. The researcher shall implement data collection through questionnaire-based surveys, by personal interview, to residents and tourists. The researcher will contribute to the preparation of databases, perform data analysis and collaborate in the preparation of technical and scientific presentations of the findings, and in the writing of the technical and progress reports of the project. The researcher should contribute to the elaboration of scientific articles with the results of the project. The researcher will be expected to organise workshops with stakeholders, foreseen within the scope of the project, as well as to arrange seminars and scientific meetings to present the results.

Applicable Legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, approved by the Law nº 40/2004, from 18 of August, conferred by the Decree Law 123/2019, from July 28th and University Of Algarve’s Research Grants Regulation. ( ).

Working place: The work will be carried out at the CinTurs (Research Center for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being) of the University of Algarve, Gambelas Campus, Faro, under the scientific supervision of Professor João Albino Matos da Silva.

Duration of the grant: The fellowship will have a duration of 10 months, scheduled to begin on the 1st of June 2022. The fellowship contract may be renewable until the end of the project, which is scheduled for 31/03/2023. The maximum term of the fellowship is 3 years, considering UAlg’s Research Grants Regulation. Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to 1686 euros. The maintenance allowance will be paid monthly by bank transfer. ( )

Selection criteria will be as follows: In accordance with the provisions of article 11, no. 2 of the University of Algarve Research Grant Regulations, the evaluation of the candidates will focus solely on the following criteria: evaluation of the scientific and curricular background, assessed on a scale of 0 to 20 (60% for academic background and 40% for experience in research activities).

The evaluation process may include an interview to be held by 3 best candidates in the curriculum evaluation, which will have a weight of 20%. Candidates not selected for interview will have a weighting of 100% in all other evaluation criteria. The final classification system of the candidates is expressed on a scale of 0-20, with a final mark to the nearest tenth.

The tender jury shall comprise the following members: The candidature evaluation panel is composed of three effective members and one substitute member:

– Professor Doutor João Albino Matos da Silva (President);

– Professor Doutor Luís Miguel Soares Nobre de Noronha e Pereira (Effective member);

– Professor Doutor Jorge Miguel Lopo Gonçalves Andraz (Effective Member);

– Professor Doutor Rui José Cunha Sousa Nunes (Substitute Member).

Publication and notification of the results: Final results will be publicized through an ordered list according to the final grade and posted in a conspicuous and public local of Building of CinTurs (Research Center for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being), of the University of Algarve, and communicated to the applicants by e-mail to the addresses indicated by each candidate.

Deadline for applications and submission forms: the call is open from 05/05/2022 to 18/05/2022.

Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:

-Official identification document (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you should present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the scholarship start date, any of which may be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. However, one of the previous must be delivered at the contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the granting of the scholarship;

-Copy of the qualification certificates of the academic degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all subjects taken;

– If the doctorate has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must conform to the rules established in Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be complied with up to the date of termination deadline for submission of the application. If the completed process is not found until the end of the application deadline, the candidate must prove that he / she has requested the recognition of the degree.

-Curriculum Vitae;

-Passport or identification card for European applicants (copy);

-Taxpayer Identification Number (NIF), if you have a nationality other than Portuguese, it must be submitted during the scholarship contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the scholarship award;

-A motivation letter, in which the candidate explains the reasons for his/her application, presenting his/her scientific/professional background and how it fits in with the work he/she intends to develop in the research project;

-Other documents that are considered relevant to the type and modality of the grant.

Grant contract Documents:

-Supporting documents stating that the applicant gathers all the requirements for this grant, namely the enrolment certificate in an awarding degree study cycle or in a postgraduate course;

-Supervisor Declaration taking the responsibility for the Work plan supervision, according to article 5º-A of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, as well as assuring the necessary conditions for the development of the work plan and in compliance with article 13 º of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow;

-Declaration of the Grant acceptance;

-Declaration of commitment stating the exclusivity regime.

Complaints and Appeal Deadlines and procedures:

On the decision for granting the Research Grant, candidates may, if they wish, comment on the hearing of interested parties, within 10 working days, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.

From the practice or omission of any act of the evaluation panel, candidates can complain to the body, within 10 working days.

The final decision of the evaluation panel can be appealed to the Rector within 15 working days after the respective notification.

Scholarship contract

With the applicant(s) selected, and after receiving all the required documentation, a scholarship contract will be signed.

Assessment of the scholarship holder(s)

At the end of each period of duration of the scholarship contract, the activity developed by the scholarship holder(s) is evaluated by the supervisor, by applying the following criteria, in accordance with the attached model:

a) Fulfillment of objectives – this component aims to assess the level of achievement of results by the grantee, considering the agreed activity plan and schedule of activities (60%);

b) Behavioral skills – this component aims to assess the personal characteristics evidenced during the assessment period (20%);

c) Personal attitude – this component aims to assess the personal commitment and availability shown during the evaluation period, taking into account factors such as the effort made, as well as the interest and motivation shown (20%).

University of the Algarve reserves the right to cancel this application procedure if by any means the contract celebration with the funding entity is not established.
