At the same time, changes in peoples dietary habits force us to consider how to produce healthy and nutritious food with a high ethical and ecological value. To achieve these goals, we need novel and innovative genetic approaches to enhance breeding programmes for agricultural and horticultural crops.Advanced phenotyping systems that use digitalisation and new sensor technologies, combined with genomic technologies, including functional genomics and genome editing technologies, provide new information for breeding through genomic selection approaches. As a result, we can genetically enhance the resilience of crops by improving resistance to diseases, for example, while reducing the use of chemical crop protection agents. The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is looking for a research professor in the field of applied plant genomics (tenure track: associate or full professor).
