Job description: In the framework of an EDF-funded research project, the Royal Military Academy is looking for a full-time research scientist/engineer with PhD degree in Engineering.
For this project you will work within the Research Unit Radio Networks (RURN) of the Department for Communication, Information, Systems and Sensors (CISS) of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Royal Military Academy.
You conduct scientific research at university level on a project entitled ‚European Protected Waveform‘ (EPW). You work within a research team and in close collaboration with the consortium partners of the EPW project funded through the European Defence Fund (EDF).
EPW is a consortium of 19 contractors, in which the Royal Military Academy is participating, and has the objective of creating the new European standard for secure satellite communications for military applications. In the EDF project the EPW standard will be delivered in the form of a Blue Book available to relevant EU-stakeholders. The objective of the EPW is to increase the autonomy of Europe and to reduce the dependence on non-European satellite communication technology for military operations with mission critical and sensitive information. At the same time, it allows for interoperability between EU nations in a joint operational context in order to exchange mission critical information and improve the efficiency of operations.
The main contributions of the Royal Military Academy are:
In the Definition Phase:
(1) The RMA will participate in the Threat Analysis and;
(2) Study of the existing Protected Waveform solutions.
In the Design Phase:
(1) The RMA is contributor for establishing the waveform concepts and evaluating the trade-off with the requirements during the preliminary waveform design.
(2) RMA will contribute to the waveform simulator design and early verification.
(3) RMA will be contributor during the final waveform design.
(4) RMA will be active in the build-up of a technological demonstrator.
(5) RMA will participate to the EPW Blue Book and overall system description.
The researcher may be exposed to classified information and will therefore have to obtain the required security clearance. The candidate must consent with the background check required to obtain this clearance, which will be executed by Belgian Defense.
Due to limitations with the security clearance only applicants with a nationality of a EU member state can be accepted.
