Job description: The Engineering Continuous Improvement Leader will share responsibilities with other team members including:

  • Defining, prioritizing, and executing a plan to improve Standard Work across the segment to drive quality into the product development, product launch, and installed base management processes. Following through with training, rolling out, and publishing standard work process.
  • Identifying gaps between current and future state of organizational knowledge and acceptance-level of a new process and then developing a strategy that maximizes adoption of new ways of working; creating a bridge to the ONW engineering teams when new initiatives are to be introduced
  • Integrating into Engineering Horizontal teams and Design Boards to proactively identify gaps where the Engineering Proactive Quality team can help execute mitigations (DP quality, etc)
  • Defining processes; lead and support authoring of standard work, QMS documents, training to institutionalize improvements and ensure long term sustainability.
  • Leading problem solving activities, kaizen events, action workouts, and other lean activities
  • Strategizing APQP4Wind implementation into ONW Engineering by engaging with ONW Quality team and Supplier Quality team and ensuring clear standard work, roles and responsibilities definition, training, communication, staffing in place impact new products within NPI timeline.
  • Influencing Supplier Quality team to ensure supplier data (i.e. CTQ data) flow to Engineering team consistently and regularly (i.e. in a manipulatable format)
  • Developing a plan to introduce design for reliability (DFR), including strategic training & communication to the engineering teams in a way that maximizes adoption of DFR as a common practice
  • Co-leading NPI process Validation kaizen including definition and implementation of ATSi, Pre-DVR, Fleet Leader; Owning and drive resulting action plans and development, training, and rollout of NPI validation standard work across all cross-functions
  • Partner with ONS Quality to co-lead development of a robust Critical to Safety Part process, documenting with QMS procedures, ensuring alignment/linkage with other key quality processes including APQP, DFMEA and Change Control, training and communication plan.
  • Connecting cross segment and cross functionally to ensure consistency in implementation of quality processes
  • Recognizing problems, responding, and sorting through complex issues, addressing root cause of issues, and making timely decisions with clear and concise communication. Rolling up sleeves to help cross-functional team members when needed.
  • Mentoring and developing peers and team members
  • Anticipating and/or resolving team conflicts, identifying and utilizing team talents, defining processes and goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years in Product Development, Project Management, Engineering, or Supplier Quality
  • Greenbelt Certification or equivalent
  • EU Work Permit

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in the Wind Business
  • Blackbelt or Master Black Belt Certification or Lean practitioner
  • Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC), Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Red X experience
  • Proven leadership ability – can influence cross-functional teams to reach a goal and works well with various leadership levels
  • Demonstrated project management, organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; versed in various problem-solving methodologies
  • Knowledgeable of product creation and launch process – has a firm understanding of the interrelated activities required to execute an NPI program
  • Understanding of how wind turbine components, subsystems, and system are designed, validated, commercialized, sourced, manufactured, qualified, and assembled
  • Passionate about continuous improvement with a willingness to try something different, sees failures as a learning opportunity
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to think outside of the box to bring creative, sustainable solutions to complicated problems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment with cross-functional teams
