Job Description

Autonomous systems are highly complex and understanding the internal and external interactions is a key for a successfull development. Managing the ever increasing complexity is a big challenge within the autonomous driving. Therefore a systematic approach in the Systems Engineering is crucial.

  • You will learn the formal and systematic methods of the Systems Engineering, such as SPES 2020, in order to manage complex systems.

You will apply this learned methodology to create a system architecture for the perception and navigation stack of a model autonomous crane.

You will model how the crane interacts with its environment and deduce a system architecture and requirements from the gained insights.

You will be in interaction with other students and employees working on Systems Engineering topics.


  • Personality & work style: Autonomous and structured working manner, high degree of motivation and communication skills, problem-solving approach and quality awareness
  • Experience and know-how: basic knowledge in modelling languages (SysML, UML) and graphic representation of requirements, interest in formal methods for the System Architectural Design (SPES 2020), knowledge in Basic Systems Engineering approach, Basic perception and navigation for autonomous vehicles/robots or Basic ROS desirable
  • Education: Student in the field of engineering (electrical, mechanical, mechatronics), computer science, physics or similar
  • Languages: Very good German and English skills

Start: immediately / by arrangement
Duration: 3 – 6 months

Prerequisite for the thesis is enrolment at a university.
