OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION WITHIN THE TERMS LAID DOWN ON ARTICLE 1 OF UNIVERSITY OF ALGARVE’S RESEARCH GRANTS REGULATION

TITLE: (1) Research Grant (RG) for graduates

It is now open a call for (1) Research Grant for graduates within the institution of R&D UIDB/05739/2020 CEAD BASE – Center for Research in Adult Education and Community Intervention (CEAD), financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology – FCT, through national funds, with the following conditions:

Admission Requirements: Degree in Social Education or Educational Sciences or related, professional experience in promoting socio-community intervention projects (preferential factor); professional experience of intervention aimed to older adults (preferred factor), taking into consideration the of University Of Algarve’s Research Grants Regulation ( ).

The applicants must be enrolled in a cycle of studies, preferably at UAlg, conferring an academic degree or in a postgraduate course that does not confer an academic degree.

Work Plan: The project focuses on the civic participation of older people in the activities of Senior Universities (SU) in the region of Trás-os-Montes. Based on a participatory research-action model, based on the voices of those involved, it is intended to streamline participatory education practices that involve those who learn in decision-making processes about what they learn and that enable older adults to assume and assert themselves as agents of education and civic participation in their communities. Generally speaking, the objectives of the project are the following: i) to know the motivations of the participants regarding civic participation throughout life and in particular in the phase they are currently experiencing; ii) identify areas of intervention for civic participation, based on the diagnosis of the different interests and needs of participants and the community; iii) intervene in the local context, from the active integration of older people in the processes of design and promotion of their own projects; iv) analyze the effects of participation, on participants and on the community, taking into account the different dynamics of implementation; v) publicize the project, taking into account the educational and social impact on the processes of personal and community development, with a view to raising awareness among local entities and the community in general. It is expected that the scholarship holder will be part of the research team, actively participating in the activities foreseen in the research plan, which includes ten essential tasks: 1) awareness of participation in the study; 2) elaboration of data collection instruments; 3) data collection; 4) intervention: identification of areas of interest, design and implementation of the project in each institution; 5) evaluation of dynamics and processes; 6) assessment of impacts on the community (focus groups, interviews and other instruments); 7) writing the final report; 8) publication of the study (ebook); 9) public presentation of results (to participants and the community); 10) communications at national and international events..

Applicable Legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, approved by the Law nº 40/2004, from 18 of August, conferred by the Decree Law 123/2019, from July 28th and University Of Algarve’s Research Grants Regulation

Working place: The work will be developed from Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, at one of the Senior Universities in the region of Trás-os-Montes, jointly with the Researcher Graça Margarida Medeiros Teixeira e Santos, principal investigator of the SCORE project and coordinator.

Duration of the grant: The grant will have a first contract of 6 months duration, beginning on September 2021. The contract may be renewed for another 6 months period, considering UAlg’s Research Grants Regulation. ( )

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to 835,98 €. The maintenance allowance will be paid monthly by bank transfer. (dre.pt/application/file/a/160312069)

Selection criteria will be as follows: In accordance with nº2 of the article 11º of the FCT Research Grants Regulation, the selection criteria will be the following: Candidate’s merit (50% average of the degree; 15% professional experience in promoting socio-community intervention projects; 15% professional experience in intervention aimed at older adults). The evaluation process may include an interview to be carried out by the candidates or a part of them, to be selected by the evaluation panel, which will have a maximum weight of 20%.

The tender jury shall comprise the following members:

Publication and notification of the results: Final results will be publicized through an ordered list according to the final grade and posted in a conspicuous and public local of the Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Bragança and the Center for Research in Adult Education and Community Intervention, and communicated to the applicants by e-mail to the addresses indicated by each candidate.

Deadline for applications and submission forms: the call is open from 28/06/2021 to 09/07/2021.

Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Official identification document (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you should present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the scholarship start date, any of which may be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. However, one of the previous must be delivered at the contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the granting of the scholarship;
  • Copy of the qualification certificates of the academic degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all subjects taken;
  • – If the doctorate has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must conform to the rules established in Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be complied with up to the date of termination deadline for submission of the application. If the completed process is not found until the end of the application deadline, the candidate must prove that he / she has requested the recognition of the degree.

Grant contract Documents

-Supporting documents stating that the applicant gathers all the requirements for this grant, namely the enrolment certificate in an awarding degree study cycle or in a postgraduate course;

-Supervisor Declaration taking the responsibility for the Work plan supervision, according to article 5º-A of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, as well as assuring the necessary conditions for the development of the work plan and in compliance with article 13 º of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow;

-Declaration of the Grant acceptance;

-Declaration of commitment stating the exclusivity regime

Complaints and Appeal Deadlines and procedures

On the decision for granting the Research Grant, candidates may, if they wish, comment on the hearing of interested parties, within 10 working days, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.

From the practice or omission of any act of the evaluation panel, candidates can complain to the body, within 10 working days.

The final decision of the evaluation panel can be appealed to the Rector within 15 working days after the respective notification.

scholarship contractWith the applicant(s) selected, and after receiving all the required documentation, a scholarship contract will be signed in accordance with the attached model.Assessment of the (s)At the end of each period of duration of the scholarship contract, the activity developed by the scholarship holder(s) is evaluated by the supervisor(s), by applying the following criteria:a) evaluation of the activities report to be written by the fellowship;b) capacity to work in teams;c) evolution of the scientific work performance of the scholarship holder.

University of the Algarve reserves the right to cancel this application procedure if by any means the contract celebration with the funding entity is not established.
