Call open for applications for a postdoctoral research grant within the framework of project Healthy Waters – Identification, Elimination, Social Awareness and Education of Water Chemical and Biological Micropollutants with Health and Environmental Implications, with the reference NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000069, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), through the North Portugal Regional Operational Programme (NORTE2020), within the scope of Portugal 2020, under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Chemical Engineering and related areas
Candidates who cumulatively meet the following requirements may apply for this grant:
a) Hold a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or related areas, obtained in the last three years before the application to this grant;
b) The Post-doctoral research is carried out in a host entity other than the one where the research work that led to the award of the PhD degree was developed.
c) Do not exceed, with this scholarship contract, including renewals, an accumulated period of three years in this type of scholarship, followed or interpolated.
If the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of the Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of august 16th, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until the time of signing the contract.
Activity Outline: The work plan is included in Activity A2 / RT 2.2. It is intended to develop sustainable, cost-effective and safe solutions for urban wastewater resources recovery in agriculture. Nanofiltration technology will be applied to split the effluent after secondary treatment into two streams: (i) a permeate stream poor in contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) and rich in nutrients to be used for crops irrigation intended to high-quality food production, and (ii) a polluted retentate stream to be discharged into the aquatic system upon minimum CECs removal of 80% by advanced oxidation technologies.
Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in force ( ) and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.
Work place: The work will developed at LEPABE, at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), under the scientific supervision of Professor Luís Miguel Palma Madeira.
Grant duration: Initial duration of 12 months, with starting date predicted to October 2021, on exclusive basis regime, eventually renewable, up to the maximum of 3 years bur not exceeding the end of the project.
Stipend: The grant stipend amounts to 1646,00€ according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country. The payment will be made by bank transfer.
The selection of the scholarship holder will be based on a curricular evaluation that will focus on the candidate’s merit and an interview will be carried out for candidates whose classification in the curricular evaluation is equal to or greater than 15 points. The evaluation criteria for the curriculum component are:
- Candidate’s academic profile: PhD in Chemical Engineering (5 points); PhD in related fields (2 points);
- Participation in R&D projects in an area relevant to the research project (up to 5 points); Participation in R&D projects in areas related to the research project (up to 2 points);
- Relevant publications (up to 5 points);
- Motivation letter that will assess the candidate’s English proficiency and motivation (up to 5 points).
The final classification of the interviewed candidates will be given by the sum of:
- Curriculum Assessment Score
- Interview score (up to 5 points)
If the minimum classification of 20 points is not achieved by any of the candidates, the scholarship will not be awarded.
