PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF ROLE

Manage and provide oversight to the daily operations of the Distillery, the CMS Plant and Processing, Barreling and Shipping (PBS), as well as related Power Management and Fuel Delivery systems.

Role Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General
  • Lead the operations management team, including the Distillery and CMS operations supervisor, the shift supervisors and the PBS operations supervisor.
  • Member of the Cruzan Leadership Team, responsible for the implementation of the facility’s vision in his/her specific departments.
  • Champion and be a role model for safety across the facility.
  • Provide necessary support and leadership for the facility when the plant general manager is out of the office and/or away on business.
  • Interact positively with visitors to the Cruzan Rum Distillery including visitors to the tour program, corporate visitors, and VIPs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Distillery Operations
  • Production Planning – Ensure synchronized scheduling of fermentation and distillation activities to maximize available resources.
  • Labor Scheduling – Adjust manpower schedule from rotation (4-on/4-off) to day shift, as needed, to optimize availability and cost.
  • Delivery on Targets – Deliver rum production targets while meeting quality specifications for final product, on time and on budget, maximizing molasses efficiency in fermentation, optimizing energy consumption and adhering to all policies and regulations.
  • Power Management & Fuel Delivery Systems – Ensure efficient operation of power and fuel systems utilizing appropriate fuel blends while maintaining smooth operation of generators & boilers. Procure fuel in a timely manner to meet budget and avoid production interruptions.
  • Maintenance Support – Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure all issues are identified and planned to be resolved appropriately in a safe & timely manner.
  • CMS Plant Operations
  • Production Planning – Synchronize CMS schedule to treat waste from the distillery in a timely fashion and avoid distillery production interruptions.
  • Labor Scheduling – Adjust manpower schedule from rotation (4-on/4-off) to day shift, as needed, to optimize availability and cost.
  • Delivery on Targets – Ensure CMS is produced at the target solid content and quality as well as ensure that all permit requirements are met. Own and manage the CMS Plant budget.
  • Supply Chain/PBS
  • Production Planning – Ensure all processing activities are scheduled and executed in a timely fashion in order to avoid distillery production interruptions and maximize customer service level.
  • Customer Service Level – Ensure all shipments loaded on time to meet customer expectations.
  • Procurement – Coordination of molasses procurement & receipt, as well as all other raw materials and supplies, to optimize cost and avoid production interruptions.
  • Coordination of CMS Shipment Logistics.
  • People Management & Development
  • Directly Manage Operations Supervisor & CMS Personnel as required.
  • Directly Manage/Engage Distillery Personnel. Timely issuance of discipline when required.
  • Manage scheduling of personnel to ensure appropriate manning on each shift
  • Ensure performance management systems are utilized for all employees to lift performance, correct behaviors and advance people agenda
  • Evaluate skill level and performance of employees on a regular basis. Work with supervisors and human resources to build strong development plans for team members, to strengthen the team and advance team member careers.

  • Project Management – Support all expansion/ upgrade projects by offering technical guidance
  • Lean Manufacturing/5S – Support Initiatives to ensure success
  • ISO System Sustainability
  • Improvement Projects – Continually look for and implement projects to improve efficiency and reduce cost while maintaining product quality
  • Adheres to and promotes Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality as one of the organization’s business priorities. Oversees compliance to all regulatory and internal standards.

Qualifications & Experience

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical)
  • Minimum of two years‘ experience in distillery operations
  • Minimum of two years water & wastewater treatment experience
  • Working knowledge of fermentation, distillation, feed recovery and boiler operation
  • Working knowledge of the principles and applications of Lean Manufacturing
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of quantitative problem-solving and statistical process control methods
  • Must be familiar with the requirements of maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
  • Strong computer skills to include spreadsheets, databases, word- processing and project software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Workday will involve activities that vary throughout the day and will be both in an office environment, as well as in a manufacturing facility.
  • Occasional exposure to excessive heat & humidity, intermittent to constant noise, vibration, dust and slippery or uneven walking surfaces
  • Must be physically able to access all areas of the plant.
