Head of Trade The British Embassy, based in The Hague, is part of a worldwide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking for a Head of Trade based at the Embassy to lead the high performing Netherlands team. Working for the Department for International Trade (DIT), you will lead the Trade team to drive the development of UK trade in the Netherlands, working with colleagues across the UK and other European markets. The jobholder will provide guidance, coaching and development to the Trade team and will have direct line management. They will lead the delivery of services via campaigns in various sectors and prosperity activities identified as key opportunities for business development. In parallel, the job holder will seek to expand networks of commercial partners, looking to uncover the next market opportunities for UK business. The Trade team works to agreed targets across a range of sectors, including Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, Food and Drink, Renewable Energy, Digital Economy and Financial Services. This is a challenging, varied and high profile role and presents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and commercially driven professional with excellent account management and relevant business experience. Applicants should ideally be able to start as soon as possible. Roles and Responsibilities: Coach and line manage the Netherlands trade team of 4 FTE to ensure targets are met and ensuring a quality product for UK clients and Netherlands contacts. Manage the inflow of work ensuring an even spread of activity across the team; Support Netherlands DIT Country Director, deputising during times of absence; Ensure knowledge of prioritised sectors is up to date, ready to provide authoritative advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders; Developing and maintaining a national network of contacts in conjunction with colleagues; Deliver market entry activities commissioned by UK companies which can include market research, organisation of events and visit programmes; Lead one of the main sector campaigns for the Netherlands and work across the region; Identify leads and opportunities for British business. Horizon spot to ensure constant sector development, ensuring resource is being used effectively; Support DIT colleagues and wider embassy campaigns, author briefs for VIP visits and other governmental communication. Undertake and ensure that administration tasks are completed, providing regular written reports on activities and record data on CRM system. Essential qualifications, skills and experience Full professional proficiency in English, including excellent writing skills (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*); Independent user in Dutch (minimum of B1/B2 level for CEFR framework*); University degree in Business/Economics or applicable subject; Minimum 5 years‘ of business development experience; Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in leading a team; Good interpersonal, influencing and relationship building skills to be able to develop and maintain a network of key contacts; Ability to deal with customers at the most senior levels of decision making; Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), strong presentation skills with experience of public speaking; A self-starter, with the ability to organise self and work effectively; Collaborative with the ability to support colleagues and share information and knowledge; Reliable, responds proactively to changing priorities; Client and stakeholder focused with the ability to network across industries; Deliver to tight deadlines, multi task, work effectively and supportively on targets; Strong team player with high social skills; Open and flexible approach to new ideas to improve results; Enthusiastic about personal development. Open to change and innovation; Commercially focussed with a strong B2B background in an international environment; Aptitude to lead, motivate and develop staff. Desirable qualifications, skills and experience A good understanding of the UK and/or Netherlands business environment including business drivers; Knowledge of or previous work experience in any of the priority sectors listed. Benefits and conditions of employment The successful candidate will initially be offered a one year employment contract at C4 level. The base salary for this position is € 4,966.44 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% annual holiday bonus and a monthly travel allowance are payable. The Embassy currently applies a performance based bonus pay model for local staff. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in The Netherlands. The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check; Any job offer is also provisional to a successful security clearance check.
