We have an excellent opportunity for an Event Manager professional to join the Caterpillar Malaga Demonstration & Learning Center (MDLC) Team. Do you have passion for creating memorable experiences through delivering best-in-class events for international audiences? Do you have experience managing a team and do you love leading events with multiple stakeholders? Do you have experience with organizing virtual, hybrid and presential events, and the use of event technologies? Then, this might be the role for you.

As Events Manager you will be coordinating events at MDLC by optimizing the MDLC assets (e.g. classrooms, Cat machines, Demonstrator Instructors), while controlling costs and recoveries. You will be leading a team of up to four direct reports, which includes managing the workload, setting up the priorities, managing absences, performance management and coaching of team members.

About the Malaga Demonstration and Learning Center (MDLC):

MDLC opened in 1971 and is located just 15 km inland from Malaga. It is one of the three global, state-of-the-art Demonstration and Learning Centers from Caterpillar. It is annually visited by over 8,000 visitors coming mainly from Europe, Africa and the Middle East, which include customers, dealers and Caterpillar employees. The Events team coordinates over 300 events per year, which include product training, machine operation, demonstration activities, press days, industry days, conferences, and much more.

The buildings on site include a reception area with staff offices, a service training center with dedicated areas for machines and engines, meeting rooms, including a large auditorium, three machine demonstration areas with grandstands, and a restaurant.

About the job:

The Events Manager is leading a team with up to 3 Events Coordinators and 1 Receptionist hosting the welcome desk.

Key activities of this role include:

  • About 50% of the time, coordinate events directly yourself
  • Coach and manage the Events Management team and reception desk by establishing the workload, setting clear objectives and priorities, managing absences, development, and performance management of team members
  • Develop and execute strategy to deliver a superior Customer Experience
  • Schedule and organize virtual, hybrid and presential events at MDLC by optimizing the MDLC assets
  • Be responsible for budget management and control
  • Create strong relationships with local and regional authorities, hotels, agencies, and suppliers

Qualifications of a successful candidate

  • Excellent and experienced people manager
  • Passion for Events Management
  • Experience with and strong focus on Customer Experience
  • Up to date with events technology, like events management software, events apps, and events website programming software
  • Time-management skills and the ability to work under pressure to ensure the efficient running of an event
  • Strong organizational, planning and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with people across many different backgrounds and cultures, internally and externally, with the appropriate influence and ability to resolve differences
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, with ideally one other major language
  • Demonstrated proficiency with analyzing and reporting results

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5-year managerial experience
  • Minimum 10-year experience in Events Management activities
  • Educated in Events Management, for example through courses or Master
