Job description: Support and lead collaborative cross-functional teams (materials, design, manufacturing, quality) to increase the technical maturity of advanced additive manufacturing methods using the TRL / MRL process
Support and execute technical projects & programs required to reduce technical risk associated with new additive manufacturing methods, building and leveraging significant domain expertise in the additive field
Provide MAE (Materials Application Engineering) support for parts under development that utilize additive manufacturing
Interface with Design Eng. & GSC and collaborate to establish requirements for materials and special processes including material characterization, mechanical properties, heat treatment, LAB testing and as necessary to ensure proper quality of components.
Review material chemistry, physical and mechanical properties to substantiate manufacturing processes and detect trends that may indicate undesirable changes in product quality.
Support and manage resolution of material processing related issues encountered during manufacturing, both internally and @ suppliers, with impact on the life cycle of the component while in service.
In agreement with Design Eng., after review of quality records and properties trends, determine proper disposition of discrepant hardware through case records.
Partner with design engineering, Supply Chain, and GE Additive to support materials development and their associated additive manufacturing processes in order to advance design technology and reduce cost
Provide input on impact of proposed manufacturing or design changes, as requested
Interpret material and special process specifications and part drawings. Ensure that acceptance / inspection procedures, and processing instructions are suitable, complete and are properly controlled during application of manufacturing procedures
Support, develop and lead long term research and development programs on materials and processes. Execute developmental testing programs of engine or test hardware to qualify part processing.
Master’s Degree in Materials Science or closely-related Engineering field from an accredited college or university
Proficiency in Italian and English (written and verbal)
Experience in a materials science engineering
EU Work Permit
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Green belt or Black Belt certification and/or Statistics knowledge
Proven self-starter and independent worker who can work with cross-functional teams
Fast in action but with detailed technical review and good documentation
Experience with additively manufactured materials
