Large platform giants as well as new competitors have emerged that disrupt existing sales structures and render entire business models obsolete. The automotive industry also faces these challenges, in addition to topics such as connectivity, autonomous driving, electric vehicles, and shared mobility. Furthermore, the pandemic leads to a rapid increase in digitization, online sales, and OEM focus on the digital sales of their products. Several questions remain unanswered: How does the online sales channel for OEMs develop? Which omnichannel models will cover future customer needs? Under which circumstances are customers willing to buy a car online? Generally, how does the Retail of the Future of an OEM look like? What are the right strategies? How should the online channel develop? Do OEMs have to start interacting more directly with the customers, pointing to a direct sales model? And what roles do the trading/distribution partners play in the future? How can OEMs prevent the splitting of added value in sales and marketing by third parties, especially platforms? The eCommerce project, which deals with the online sales of our vehicles, as well as the Retail of the Future project, which deals with general sales organization questions tackle these challenging questions in Region Overseas (incl. South Korea, Japan, Australia, India, Russia, Brazil, etc.) by developing and testing new sales concepts with selected pilot markets. A scientific accompaniment, in the form of a doctoral student, would provide up-to-the-minute research in theoretical concepts and schools of thought, as well as the chance to practically apply such concepts. As a result of your master’s degree program as well as your previous experience, you have developed into a passionate marketing specialist and want to further develop this in the form of a doctoral degree. What are your tasks? You actively participate in the Retail of the Future project as you support with analysis, research, concept development, and piloting. As you are familiar with project work, you carry out subprojects in collaboration with persons from both within and outside of Daimler AG, its subsidiaries, and the Region Overseas team. We support your doctorate very actively in close consultation with the university and your doctoral supervisor. A doctoral supervisor is already available, but can also be provided by you.
